Asher Jelinsky

Director / Writer

Originally from the Bay Area, Asher Jelinsky is a director/writer based in Los Angeles. Asher is an MFA Directing Fellow at the AFI Conservatory and holds BA degrees with honors in Media Studies and Public Health from Pitzer College.  Asher enjoys telling poetic, character-driven stories that often explore queer identity and intimacy within the context of larger narratives. Their involvement in the LGBTQ community spans a decade, from directing documentary videos for transgender health organizations to premiering short films at the San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival. In addition to narrative filmmaking, Asher has produced and directed photo and video content for Fortune 500 companies including Google, Charles Schwab, and Oracle.


Kate ChamuRis


Originally from Bucks County Pennsylvania, Kate Chamuris is a Los Angeles based producer and writer/director. Since relocating to LA a year ago, her producing work with AFI fellows includes the thesis IF THIS IS WRONG as well as the AFI Directing Workshop for Women short UNSPEAKABLE. She is the creator of the original series BREAKFAST IN BED that premiered at SideWalk Film Festival and is currently having its festival run. Kate’s upcoming projects include directing the short film, A SARI FOR PALLAVI, which is based off a top ten finalist play from the Samuel French OOB festival. In development is the feature film adaptation of Danielle Sepulveres’s memoir LOSING IT…THE SEMI-SCANDALOUS STORY OF AN EX VIRGIN.


Robert Nachman


Robert Nachman is a father, artist and cinematographer. He was born and bred in Pennsylvania and spent his formative years chasing girls on his bicycle, catching fireflies in mason jars, and inventing new and imaginative ways to get into trouble. Robert is a mediocre rock climber and is currently renovating a cabin in the Mojave Desert. He received his BFA in Photography from Metropolitan State College of Denver. His video art and installation has been exhibited nationally, and he has spent the last 5 years shooting narrative, documentary and music video works in Los Angeles, California. He is currently a Cinematography Fellow at the American Film Institute and co-owner of the boutique production company Spin The Dial. 


Robert Aguirre

Production designer

Robert Aguirre received his Bachelors of Science in Television, Film and New Media Production from San Diego State University in fall 2014. He emphasized in Production Design and worked as a scene shop teaching assistant for the film program. After graduation he gained success in the commercial and editorial realms and has worked with many notable companies such as Disney, Matchbox, Chick-fil-A, Mattel, Nintendo, Qualcomm, Sony, Vanity Fair and Wired Magazine. Just before he came to AFI, he was an art department assistant for the NBC show THE GOOD PLACE.




Tian (Selinda) Zhou graduated with a BA in Culture and Expression and a diploma in Digital Media Arts in Canada. She is the editor-in-chief of International Famous Magazine. She has directed and edited short films, including documentaries, music videos and concerts. In 2014, she appeared in the movie TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION. She also performed her new single on TRANSFORMERS Gala Appreciation Night; and as bilingual MC, she hosted the movie premiere. In 2015, she was a finalist on CHINA'S GOT TALENT, which aired on China Central TV. After the show, she held her first solo concert in North America. Selinda's background in music helps inform her sense of rhythm, pacing, and sound design as an editor.
